Many parents and grandparents do. At least I have found that with my books. Since these parents and grandparents are avid readers themselves, they cannot wait to open the book and read it. They want to do that before giving it to their child or grandchild.
Hi, I am Elizabeth Fischer, author of Trouble at the North Pole and The Last Christmas Tree. One mother confided to me that she planned to read my books first before giving them to her daughters to read. She had been an elementary school teacher. After she finished reading them, she wondered how she was going to keep them from her daughters until closer to the holidays, which had been her original idea. She was bursting with the stories and wanted to share them with her girls. “You are a good writer,” she complimented, “a very good writer.”
A grandmother read both my books before sharing them with her grandchildren. Then she doled them out by giving them one last Christmas and holding the second until this Christmas. When I informed her that I was in the process of writing the third and the fourth books of the series, she replied, “Good! Now I can count on more for future holidays.”
Another grandmother started reading Trouble at the North Pole with her grandson, but he soon tired of her pace. When he thought she wasn’t looking, he sneaked the book off to finish it on his own.
Every time I hear one of these incidents, I smile. They make me feel complimented that my books have captured the attention of the parents and grandparents. I also appreciate their desire to have their beloved child enjoy reading as much as they do.
I will make it easy for you to start Trouble at the North Pole. I have recorded the first chapter for you. Go here now and listen. You will meet a very distraught Teeny Tiny Elf who has discovered a problem that he brings to Santa’s attention.

PS As I mentioned, Trouble at the North Pole was the start of a new series. I have written the first two books, am well on my way to finishing the third, and have started the fourth. If you want to stay in touch with me about the series, send me your e-mail, and you will be among the first to know when the third and fourth books are released.
PPS Check out both books on this page.
